ABOUT DR. WOLF
A number of years ago, Dr. Francis Ihejirika (founder of PASS Program) and I had our paths in life cross. He introduced me to the Academic side of Medicine and the advantages there are in creating a new breed of physicians. In no time, I too had found a new passion in being able to touch so many students. The field of Medicine is short of physicians who do not memorize. And, many doctors still lack the understanding as to "WHY" they are performing a given task in treating their patients. Whether it is a test being ordered or just simply writing a prescription to treat an ailment, our patients rely on us to be competent physcians in our particular field of practice. However, once a medical student enters the system, it is easy to get into a bad routine and not realize their disregard for the pursuit of knowledge. All too often, students and physicians settle for just memorizing details rather than understanding the big picture, which is far more important.
It was not until my father was diagnosed with Stage 4 Lymphoma that I started to realize the medical community has so many physicians who lack the basic skills and knowledge to treat their patients. I watched as they merely followed a protocol, and when they were questioned, the response was always: "That's the way we do things." Because of this approach, my dad was initially misdiagnosed with pancreatic cancer. Our world came to a sudden stop when we heard this horrific diagnosis. My dad seemed to give up on life at the moment he understood the prognosis. As a physician, I had to intervene and make sure the right things were done. I could not just allow his physicians to simply follow an algorithm. Because of my intervention, I am proud to say that my dad is alive and well today. I intervened by showing his physicians that protocols are not always right. It is because of this passion, (and fire that I carry inside) that I decided to set aside a career in Surgery and utilize my skills and knowledge in Academic Medicine.
I feel blessed to have this unique opportunity to share with you the years of experience that I gained in the field of Internal Medicine and Surgery. In particular, I have organized medical information to help enlighten medical students as to why Physiology is the backbone of Medicine. When a student understands Physiology, he or she does not have to memorize their way through Medicine.
If you take Physiology and screw it up, that leads to Pathology.
If something happens to Physiology and you want to fix it, that leads to Pharmacology.
If you want to understand Physiology, that leads to Biochemistry.
So as you can see, the pendulum will always swings through Physiology. Students are finding that the United States Medical Licensing Exam (USMLE) and COMLEX are getting tougher to pass each year. The complexity of the questions has increased significantly but the "CLUES" and "CONCEPTS" really never change.
What makes our program so unique is that we not only help you pass your medical boards, but we also help you prepare to meet the diverse challenges presented when you practice Medicine. It is this unique approach, that has made PASS Program South an outstanding success story. If you are up to the challenge of truly understanding Medicine in a way you have never been taught before, the PASS Program is definitely for you.
I look forward to seeing you soon.
