USMLE Exam Review Courses

Our USMLE preparation courses are unique in that we offer a completely integrated approach to the United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE) or Comprehensive Osteopathic Medical Licensing Examination (COMLEX). PASS Program South is the only USMLE step review of its kind in the United States. We offer individualized one-on-one tutoring in addition to classroom instruction for all USMLE courses. All instructors are former PASS Program students who have already passed the same USMLE or COMLEX exams they are helping other students to pass. Therefore, our instructors are speaking from a standpoint of experience. Each USMLE courses instructor is willing to share his or her individualized experience at the PASS program and how the program has significantly impacted their respective careers.

USMLE Step 1 - In the United States, medical students typically take the USMLE 1 or COMLEX Level 1 at the end of their second year of medical school. Step 1 is often a requirement for progression into the student's more clinical third year of study. A passing score on the USMLE Step 1 is considered to be a strong indication that a student has a solid understanding of the information he or she was taught in medical school during their basic sciences years. At PASS Program South, our USMLE courses teach each student to use a more thorough and integrated approach to master medical information rather than memorize it.

USMLE Step 2 - The focus of the USMLE Step 2 exam is more on the clinical application of the individual's medical knowledge to help assess whether a student (or a graduate of a foreign medical school) can apply his or her knowledge of clinical sciences for the provision of patient care under supervision. The USMLE Step 2 is divided into two distinct examinations:

  • USMLE Step 2 CK (Clinical Knowledge) is a one-day, 9 hour, computer-based exam composed of eight question sets designed to test a student's knowledge of the clinical sciences needed for the competent practice of medicine.
  • USMLE Step 2 CS (Clinical Skills) is a one-day, simulated patient-based exam designed to test a student's ability to communicate with patients in a clinical setting. The Step 2 CS is comparable to the COMLEX Level 2-PE exam administered by the NBOME.

At Step 2, it is important to measure each student's ability to use basic patient-centered skills as a foundation for his or her safe and competent practice of medicine. Our USMLE courses teach our students how to explain pathological issues as well as explaining normal events. The collective USMLE 2 exams measure the clinical understanding the student has of preventative medicine, disease mechanisms, differential diagnosis and the basic principles of patient management.

USMLE Step 3 - The USMLE Step 3 is a mandatory exam that must be passed to obtain a license as a practicing physician. Step 3 is used to measure a student's knowledge of a broad spectrum of general topics required to practice the concepts of medicine. Approximately 75% of the exam is multiple choice questions with one fourth of the USMLE 3 focused on clinical-case patient simulations. Our Step 3 USMLE courses teach our students how to evaluate a patient through completing a patient history and physical examination, and to formulate a sound diagnostic and therapeutic plan.

PASS Program South offers medical students and graduates of foreign medical schools a choice of 4-week, 6-week or 8-week USMLE courses designed to empower doctors with the knowledge that will change their medical future and the patients they touch throughout their career. Let us teach you how to use what you learned in medical school to develop a firm understanding of basic physiology through pathology, pharmacology and biochemistry.
